Thirteen Ways to Control Stress

1. Control Anger, make a conscious choice not to become angry or upset. Do not allow yourself to waste thought and energy where it isn’t deserved

2. Breathe, before reacting to the next stressful occurrence, take three deep breaths and release them slowly.

3. Slowdown, whenever you feel overwhelmed by stress, practice speaking more slowly than usual, by slowing down your speech you’ll also appear less anxious and more in control of any situation.

4. Complete One Simple To Do, choose one simple thing you have been putting off (e.g. returning a phone call, making a doctor’s appointment) and do it immediately. Just taking care of one nagging responsibility can be energizing and can improve your attitude.

5. Get Some Fresh Air, get outdoors for a brief break, believe in the healing power of fresh air.

6. Avoid Hunger and Dehydration, cause they can provoke aggressiveness and exacerbate feelings of anxiety and stress.

7. Do a Quick Posture Check, bad posture can lead to muscle tension, pain, and increased stress. (Guilty!)

8. Recharge at the Day’s End, plan something rewarding for the end of your stressful day, even if only a relaxing bath or half an hour with a good book

9. Learn to say “No”, when asked to do something stressful.

10. Exercise, those who find time to exercise, reduce stress, strengthen their immune system, and improve their well-being are much more effective than those who do not. (Guilty again! gheez!)

11. Talk to yourself!, positive self-talk helps people change the way they look at stressful situations. This lessens the harmful effects of stress. ( I do this most of the time, this really works! )

12. Lose the Clutter, rid yourself of all the clutter that surrounds you and this will not only make your environment become more visually pleasing and relaxing, but you’ll also avoid the stress of constantly searching for important items among the excess ( =-( guilty once more… )

13. Get Rid of Static noise, when you can, take a “silence is golden” break in a quiet room to recharge your emotional and mental batteries. ( Hmm… how do i stop my 9yr old hyperactive son from his unending questions about anything? he he he)

Nice list. Those are very good, sensible things to do. 😀

I try to remind myself of #1, #7, #9… every day at work.
